Middlebury Community House has served this town since 1938. We still keep the doors open for community life. We also teach photo editing, video editing, content creation, and everyday AI tools so people here can try new kinds of work.
Mission
Keep the house useful. Teach skills people can use.
We keep this historic house open for the people of Middlebury and nearby towns. It is a place to gather for social, educational, and charitable use, with care for young people at the center of that work. Alongside those long-standing activities, we teach practical digital skills that can lead to new jobs and new paths.
Vision
A town where anyone can learn today’s tools.
We want neighbors of every age to feel able to use the software and AI tools that many jobs now ask for. We also want this 200-year-old house to stay a living part of Main Street — a place to meet, learn, and look after one another.
What we do
Community life, plus digital skills.
The house is still a meeting place. Groups have used it for classes, music, art, gatherings, and town events. We are adding hands-on classes in digital work so people here can practice real tools, not just hear about them.
Youth and neighbors
Programs are open to people in Middlebury and nearby towns, with special care for boys and girls, as the original gift asked.

History
Built as a home. Given to the town.
1816–1817
Horatio Seymour (1778–1857) built this house as his residence at what is now 6 Main Street, on the corner of Main and Seymour Streets, across from the Town Green.
February 9, 1938
His great-granddaughter Jessica Stewart Swift and great-grandson Philip Battell Stewart gave the house, with its furnishings, for the use and benefit of the people of Middlebury and nearby towns, especially the boys and girls.
1938 to today
Middlebury Community House Inc has kept that charge: a meeting place for social, recreational, and educational use, and for other charitable work. The organization is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax deductible.

We are applying to nonprofit programs that can put professional software in reach of our classes. None of these partnerships are final yet. Each one below is in progress.
